Travel magazines and Instagram feeds often give the impression that you have to travel to exotic locales to truly experience the epic wonders of this world. I've seen the Pyramids of Egypt, experienced the volcanic hot springs of Costa Rica, snorkeled in the Caribbean and smelled the smells of Kolkata.

I believe West Virginia can provide epic experiences to rival anything you can find by traveling abroad.

When we moved to West Virginia from Maryland in 1985, we were called “city-slickers” by our neighbors. Now that I've lived in West Virginia for over 35 years, I could probably be called a “hillbilly.” You might say I have dual citizenship when it comes to derogatory names. Judging from the photo below, the names may not be far off the mark!

As a kid, young adult and now (middle-aged) adult I feel like I took the beauty and opportunity for adventure in West Virginia for granted. 

Over the past couple summers, I've looked at traveling within the state, but always made plans elsewhere for one reason or another. This year (2023) I decided it was time to see the state. My wife and I traveled to the Seneca Rocks area for our annual anniversary getaway and then took the kids to ACE Adventure Resort for the second half of the week.

Both trips reinforced the fact that I was on the right track. 

My goal is to find and document West Virginia and all the adventures that it has to offer. Whether you are looking for family day trips for you and your kids, adventures for adrenaline junkies or scenic spots to take in nature, we're going to try and find it and share it with you.
